About

Toronto-based mezzo-soprano Jessica Lyublinsky has had a passion for music from a young age. At 20 years old, she has achieved great success in various vocal competitions and has been praised by judges for her deep voice, dramatic timbre, and extensive vocal range.

Jessica is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto, Canada, and is the recipient of the Bill and Janet L'Heureux full-tuition scholarship. She studies under Canadian operatic soprano Adrianne Pieczonka, who is also the Chair-in-Voice studies at the GGS, and works with Rachael Kerr, a rehearsal pianist with the Canadian Opera Company. Jessica is trained by some of Canada's top performers and musicians, and has performed in masterclasses led by artists such as Liz Upchurch, Russell Braun, Lynne Dawson, and Warren Jones. In her second year at the GGS, Jessica had the opportunity to perform in the Spring Chamber opera "Rinaldo" by Handel and sang the tenor line in the finale.

Jessica has been invited to participate in various festivals and opera programs around the world, where she has the opportunity to perform dramatic and operatic literature. In 2018, at age 15, she joined the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices (IYDV), led by Dolora Zajick, where she worked with renowned teachers and coaches from major opera houses and conservatories in the US and Europe. At the age of 16, Jessica made her operatic debut, performing the role of Schwertleite in "Ride of the Valkyries" from Wagner's "Die Walküre" with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. Through the IYDV, Jessica performs in concerts and masterclasses with industry professionals such as Dolora Zajick, Luana De Vol, Stefano Baldessaroni (Italian diction; The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, The Metropolitan Opera), Beatrice Benzi (Italian opera; Teatro alla Scala), Tom Muraco (Repetiteur; Manhattan School of Music), Stefano Sarzani (Italian diction; Lyric Opera of Chicago), Marianne Barrett (German diction; The Metropolitan Opera), Yelena Kurdina  (Russian diction; The Metropolitan Opera), Cheryl Lin Fielding (Repititeur; UCLA), and many more.

Jessica will be participating in the Institute for Young Dramatic Voices for the sixth consecutive year in July 2023.

In addition to her studies, Jessica has been performing professionally in Toronto. She made her choral debut with the Toronto Korean Canadian choir in October 2022, singing soprano 1 in Beethoven's "Choral Fantasy," "Pie Jesu," and more. As a chorister, she performed in Heneck Kon's Yiddish opera "Bas Sheve" with the Ashkenaz Festival Toronto 2022, accompanied by the UCLA Philharmonia and conducted by Neal Stulberg. She has also performed the alto parts in Beethoven's 9th Symphony, "Carmina Burana," and "The Polovtsian Dance from Prince Igor" with the Mandel Philharmonic in their "An Ode to Joy" concert in September 2022.

Jessica has participated in music festivals across Ontario, both as a soloist and as a member of a choir. In 2019 and 2020, Jessica received the Vaughan Academy of Music Award scholarship and was awarded the Toronto Piano Center Adjudicator's Choice scholarship (2019) for her outstanding performance at the Unionville Music Academy Competition.

Prior to attending the Glenn Gould School, Jessica participated in the Royal Conservatory of Music's High School Summer Opera Intensive program under the guidance of Victoria Holland and the coaching of Mike Angell. She made her "pants-role" debut, singing Nicolausse in the Barcarolle scene from Jacques Offenbach's "The Tales of Hoffman," and performed for the first time at Mazzolini Hall in 2017.
